NO, it’s not the name of a new Disney movie, it is simply the only way I can describe the band Small Leaks Sink Ships. After Judd had three different scares at cancer, he is cancer free and looks healthier then ever (click to see pictures before he was healthy). Seriously. I saw him the other day and he has good color, a full head of hair and completely healthy. Thank god!! So just when they were ready to play again and had a couple shows lined up, Rafael, another member of the band fell off of his bike and seperated/broke (I dont know, shit he has metal in his body now) his shoulder. Finally though, the shoulder is getting better after surgery and he seems to be healing more and more each day.

Good news and more to come soon…..hopefully!

After a trip with its furthest destination being Portland, OR, what can be expected from Small Leaks. More shows of course. They will be heading to Ohio on Sept 20th to be playing in the Rukus Music Festival and hitting up some cities along the way. Not all of the details are set yet, but check often on the Small Leaks site. Portland Oregon show your faces

Ahhh, Portland Oregon I know well. I sit here wishing I was back their right now; not only because its 100 degrees outside (here in Phoenix), not only to see some great friends, but because the people of Portland are good and we want to reward you Oregonians. Small Leaks is putting on one show in the Portland area prior to heading back down the 950 miles of the I-5 Interstate for another 365 miles of the I-10. It will be a most triumphant show because it will be the only one in the Northwest this year. Yes, the day has finally come for Small Leaks Sink Ships to play at the Legendary Nile Theater. Turst me, you do not want to miss their sound in that awesome venue.

They are the opening act for the amazing Dredg!! The show is going to be sick, so bring your girl/boy friend, wife, friends, brother, sisters, mentee, mom and dad or even your grandparents. As long as they bring their $15 and they get their by 6:30 for when the doors open. The Nile Theater is on Main Street just east of the 87 in Historic Mesa.

Yes, free show is right. Spooky you say? You’ve never heard of a venue or band being so generous with their music!?!? Well get used to it!!!! Pretty much every show that is at the Yucca Tap Room is free and pretty much every show that Small Leaks plays at is worth paying money for. So, what does this Friday the 13th mean? Yes, crazy sh!t is happening. Music worth paying a lot of money for…being FREE! Come to the Yucca on Mill and Southern and see the following bands:

Hoodlums’s 2 days of music

This last weekend, Hoodlums hosted a number of local bands for their 3rd annual “Hoodstock” show. One of the bands was Small Leaks Sink Ships and despite the stage just big enough to host 3 of the bandmembers at most and the size of the venue, they still brought the same intensity. If you weren’t able to check out the show, here or a couple snapshots of the set.

It’s an old picture, but really has so much depth to it…….no, truly it does. Get over the blatantly obvious double left handed turn sign, but go a little further down and you see the politically uplifting sticker that reads “Impeach Obama”. Then as you look closely, their is a sticker that is directly under the point of this blog…SMall Leaks Sink Ships. What is the sticker underneath? Does it Matter? Yes. It starts with a D so the possibilities is few. Just underneath the D/Small Leaks Sink Ships sticker is a troll looking drawing. I started to think, is it easy to write on a sign, I believe they all have a odd texture for writing to take place. Then I thought, does the person who drew this actually go into a store and ask for a pen that draws on street signs? And then I stepped back and wondered what the meaning was for all three of these stickers/pictures to be posted next to each other……nothing. The only thing to take from this, is that Small Leaks Sink Ships, Obama and Trolls will all be tied together at this spot forever (or until they change it, if they haven’t already). And if you know where this sign is, let me know by posting on here.

EP Sleeves – Small Leaks Sink Ships

If you were not fortunate enough to make it to the Small Leaks Sink Ships EP release show, you weren’t fortunate enough to get a personally designed EP Sleeve with the copy of their new EP. Every two to three days they show you a sneak peak of the work the put into them. Some of them were comprised of magazine covers, clippings, and some were even handdrawn. Regardless, all of them have been put together by hand by the members of Small Leaks and were worked on for many days on end.

Upcoming Shows – Small Leaks Sink Ships

I apoligize for the absence over the last week and a half but I have been planning a wedding, trying to fix a piece of sh!t toilet, and Thursday through Sunday watching college basketball uncontrollably. If you don’t get into college basketball or March Madness, consider yourself lucky. It’s addicting, jubilant, overwhelming, exhausting, demorilizing and sometimes a drunken debauchery. But today is Monday so I’m off the wagon…..until Thursday again.

Anyway, in the middle of all of that, I attempted to go see a Small Leaks show on the 14th but the cops shut it down. It was crazy! They were playing, some guy got on stage, Judd kicked him off, he threw a beer bottle at Jim so Ralph jumped off the stage like a rapid leprachaun and beat the hell out of him. That led to a man running at the stage with a torch and lit the stage on fire!!!! Cue the cops.

…………or they didn’t get on early enough and it was a Monday night and the noise ordinance wouldn’t allow it.
